Specialist in Pensions and Divorce
I have considerable experience and qualifications in the pension market (see below). In particular with regard to pension transfers and pensions on divorce. Pensions can be the biggest asset in a divorce or civil partnership dissolution, so you will benefit from getting the best advice. This is where PCFP can help. Expert advice and an experienced and sympathetic listener too, please do not hesitate to contact Mick.
I have been offering advice, and expert reports, on pensions and divorce for 20 years and been involved in pension transfer advice for over 25 years.
I graduated from the University of Manchester in 1985 with a Bachelor of Science Degree (Second Class) in Mathematics.
I worked as an actuarial trainee for over two years with an international firm of employee benefit consultants, then for one regional and one national firm of independent financial advisers. I have substantial experience in pension administration and consultancy, dealing with group and individual pension arrangements. I passed the Financial Planning Certificate in July 1990.
In August 1993, I set up a Financial Services Department for a 200-year-old firm of regional solicitors. I ran this department until January 1999. During this time, I obtained substantial experience in relation to pensions and other financial aspects of matrimonial settlements. I was one of the first IFAs to obtain Law Society authorisation as a qualified person and was initially the only North-West based IFA authorised in Corporate Pensions.
I obtained the Advanced Financial Planning Certificate in January 1995. I was then admitted as a Member of the Society of Financial Advisers, SOFA (now called the Personal Finance Society, PFS), the financial services arm of the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII).
In 1996, I passed the CII Pensions exam (G60), which later became compulsory for advising on pension transfers. I was admitted as an Associate of SOFA in April 1999. In February 1999, I set up Professionally Connected Financial Planning, a partnership of regional fee-based independent financial advisers.
In October 2001, I passed the CII Retirement Options (K10) exam. I achieved the highest mark of any candidate during the 2001/2 academic year. The examination covered the full spectrum of advice on pension options at retirement for employees, business owners and the self-employed. It included pensions on divorce.
I was awarded the prestigious Chartered Insurance Institute/Scottish Equitable K10 Retirement Options Merit Award for 2002. In September 2007, I was awarded Chartered Financial Planner status by the CII. PCFP were one of the first 100 firms awarded Corporate Chartered Financial Planner status by the CII.
In July 2008, I became sole owner of PCFP. In October 2009, I attended the Resolution IFA Financial Planning and Divorce course. I remain an Affiliate Member of Resolution.
PCFP remains Independent under the new regulations. In recognition of my completion of the requirements for the new regulatory regime, I was awarded my Statement of Professional Standing by the CII on 4 May 2012. This was successfully renewed in September 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015.
